Misted window repair, done properly

That cloudy, condensation-trapped look between your panes has one cause and one fix. Here's exactly what's gone wrong, and how Dr. Glaze puts it right.

What causes a window to mist up between the panes?

A double glazed unit is two panes of glass sealed together with a thin strip of desiccant-filled spacer bar, and a layer of argon or air trapped in between. Over time — usually somewhere between 10 and 25 years, though it can happen sooner — the edge seal breaks down. Moist air seeps in, the desiccant becomes saturated, and you're left with a permanent film of condensation trapped where you can't reach it.

It's an extremely common problem across Milton Keynes, especially in homes that are 15–20 years old and after a run of damp weather. Left unaddressed, that trapped moisture can encourage mould growth around the frame and leaves your home losing heat through the compromised unit.

The Good News

You don't need a new window — just new glass

The frame, hinges and locks are almost always completely fine. We simply cut out the failed sealed unit and fit a brand-new one in its place.

Save money

Avoid the cost of full replacement windows by fixing only the glass that's actually failed.

Better insulation

A new sealed unit restores the thermal performance the failed one had lost.

Lower bills

Improved insulation means less heat escaping and a warmer room for less energy.

Clear views again

No more permanent haze — just a clean, crystal-clear pane of glass.

Where This Applies

Common places we find misted glass

Conservatory roof & wall panels

Conservatories often show misting first, thanks to greater temperature swings.

Patio & French doors

Large glazed door panels are common candidates for a failed seal.

Bathroom & kitchen windows

Rooms with higher humidity can accelerate seal failure over time.

Older PVCu & timber frames

Units fitted more than a decade ago are the most likely to need attention.
